The original initiative of Quota International was to help the hearing impaired. In the Greater Manchester area we helped with scholarships, the Shatter Silence awareness program, equipment for deaf classrooms, hearing aids and TTY equipment, and even a closed-captioned TV for a deaf couple with a hearing baby.
A few years ago, Quota International adopted an initiative to help disadvantaged women and children. Through members and local charities, we’ve provided a washing machine for a mother of 9, youth beds, stuffed animals to be used by emergency services for trauma victims, coats for the homeless, toiletries for battered women, baby products for unwed mothers, grants to the Teen Clinic at the YWCA, clothing and holiday gifts for the International Institute refugee program, setting up the intake room at Families in Transition, Santa Fund donations, sponsorship of the Quota Challengers handicapped baseball team, adoption of two classrooms at the Beech Street School, Mothers Day gifts for moms at Families in Transition, and much more.
Ten years ago we started the Empty Bowl project. Members donate homemade soups and bread, a local potter supplies hand-thrown bowls, and donations are given by those who partake of the meal. To date we have raised over $18,000, all of which is given back to the community to be used strictly to feed the hungry.
